Forum
Readers from all over the world join in discussions on previous Surveys. Titled players, correspondence players and club players shed their light on opening developments and search for the truth together. With contributions by Anish Giri, Ashot Nadanian, Efstratios Grivas, Jose Vilela, and many others.

Sosonko’s Corner
In this Corner, Sosonko focuses on preparation aimed at a specific opponent. How did star players like Magnus Carlsen, Anatoly Karpov and Mikhail Tal adapt their opening choice to the strengths and weaknesses of their rivals? In short; how do you surprise an opponent who thinks he knows everything about you?

Book Reviews
Glenn Flear has read four books on gambits for this Yearbook. Part four of John Watson’s famous ‘Mastering the Chess Openings’ series concentrates largely on gambits. David Vigorito’s ‘Understanding the Marshall Attack’ is on a mainstream opening which, however, started long ago as a gambit and in fact still is one! Boris Alterman’s ‘The Alterman Gambit Guide – White Gambits’ is a repertoire book for players who like to sac a pawn for sharp positions, whereas Kiril Georgiev’s ‘Squeezing the Gambits’ aims to give good antidotes to the Benko, Budapest, Albin (Counter-) and Blumenfeld Gambits.
